In his last year in the U19, he played once for the U23 in the Regionalliga Süd , to which he then switched permanently without being able to assert himself. Therefore, after a year in the Bayernliga , he moved to 1. SC Feucht , with whom he returned to the Regionalliga Süd in the first year. After two years, he had established himself as a striker and attracted the attention of other clubs with ten goals in 31 games.
In 2005 he moved to league competitor SSV Jahn Regensburg . After relegation from the Regionalliga Süd in 2006, he remained loyal to Jahn and the following year was one of the SSV's guarantors of promotion with 13 goals in 24 games. Back in the Regionalliga, he played a good first half of the 2007/08 season. During the winter break, however, he moved to SV Sandhausen . At the end of the season, the club qualified for the new single-track 3rd league , but although Schmid made 26 league games for the Sandhauser in the 2008 calendar year, he was unable to assert himself there and so he returned to the also after only one year in the winter break SSV Jahn Regensburg qualified for the 3rd division.
He played a successful second half of the season with five goals in 16 league games and was a regular for Jahn in the 2009/10 season. However, he only scored two goals and so, among others, Tobias Schweinsteiger and Michael Klauß were hired as reinforcements, who contested his place. In the following two seasons he only played 16 games each season. In 2012, the club finished the season in third place and managed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga through two relegation games against Karlsruher SC , in which he was not used.
