Gonzalo Antonio Fierro Caniullán (born March 21, 1983 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean football player . The winger has been under contract with the Chilean first division club CD Antofagasta since 2019 .
Career
society
Fierro began his professional career in 2002 at the Chilean top club CSD Colo-Colo . Before that he played in their youth department. In the following years he played together with many experienced players such as Humberto Suazo , Matías Fernández and Alexis Sánchez . In 2002 ( Clausura ), 2006 ( Apertura & Clausura) and 2007 (Apertura & Clausura) he won the national championship with Colo-Colo. Gradually, Fierro developed into a top performer in the club. But not only nationally, but also continentally he was heard from. In the historic 2-0 win of his team in the Copa Libertadores on March 20, 2008 against CA Boca Juniors , the winger became one of the match players. On August 26, 2008 Fierro moved to the Brazilian top club CR Flamengo . This made him the first Chilean footballer to wear the club's dress. It was not until April 5, 2009 that he played his first competitive game in the state championship. The midfielder only got his second chance to prove himself in the new league on July 12th of the same year, when he wanted to replace Ibson Barreto da Silva, who had been on loan again . Fierro scored his first goal for Flamengo in the game against São Paulo after a short time. In the meantime he has more stakes. After the end of the 2009 season, he was the first Chilean to celebrate a Brazilian championship after Nelson Tapia , Elías Figueroa and Claudio Maldonado .
In early 2012, Fierro returned to Colo-Colo. With the club he won the Chilean championship in 2015 and 2017. At the beginning of 2018 he switched to CD Antofagasta .
National team
2006 Fierro played for the first time for the Chilean national team . Shortly afterwards he was appointed to the 2007 Copa América squad by then national coach Nelson Acosta . He was used in the preliminary round as well as in the quarterfinals, in the 1: 6 against Brazil . Since then he has been doing regular missions in the dress of his home country. In May 2010 coach Marcelo Bielsa nominated him for the World Cup in South Africa . The team made it to the round of 16 and was eliminated from Brazil. Fierro was the only outfield player in Chile to not appear during the entire tournament.
