In 2007 he won the Apertura with Colo-Colo and in 2008 the Clausura with River Plate .

After returning to Udine, Sánchez played in Serie A and in the UEFA Cup in the 2008/09 season . With the Italians he had a contract until June 30, 2014. National team

Sánchez will meet Ecuador in the decisive qualifier for the 2014 World Cup in October 2013.

He also played all of Chile's games at the 2011 Copa America in Argentina , but was eliminated with his team after four games in the quarter-finals against Venezuela. In the last group game against Uruguay, Sánchez scored the 1-1 final score, which meant that La Roja had qualified as group winners for the quarter-finals against Venezuela .

He also took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with the Chilean national team; his team met Brazil in the round of 16 and only lost to the Selecao on penalties; Sánchez scored the second penalty for Chile , but failed on Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César .

In the final, Chile was able to defend the title against Argentina - again on penalties, in which he did not take part as a player who had already been substituted.

On March 28, 2017, he scored his 37th international goal in the 3-1 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela with the 1-0 leading goal in the fifth minute, breaking Marcelo Salas' ten-year-old national record , then failed in the 77th Minute at the score of 3: 1 with a penalty and could therefore not increase the record.

On June 22, 2017, he set Claudio Bravo's record with his 112th international match in the Confederation Cup match against world champions Germany , and was then also achieved with his 38th international goal, the 400th goal in the history of the Confederation Cup sole record scorer.
