Born in Urbino , Sensi started playing football for the local club Urbania at the age of six. In 2007 he switched to the youth team at Rimini Football Club . He spent three years there before he was brought into the youth division of rival AC Cesena . There he initially only played in the reserve team until he was loaned to the third division club San Marino Calcio .

He made his professional football debut in San Marino on September 8, 2013, when he started against Reggiana . A week later he scored his first goal against Como . During this season he was able to score twice in 26 missions. The following season, San Marino Calcio Sensi loaned out again. During this season, Sensi visibly improved. He was used in 33 games in which he scored eight goals and prepared two more.

Sensi made his debut for Cesena on August 20, 2015, when he played the full 90 minutes against Catania in the Coppa Italia . On September 5, he made his Serie B debut in a 2-0 win over Brescia . He scored his first goal for the Seahorses on October 3 when he scored the goal of the day from a penalty against AS Livorno .

On January 13, 2016 Stefano Sensi signed a three and a half year contract with the first division club US Sassuolo . Sensi was immediately loaned back to AC Cesena for the remainder of the season. He made his debut for Sassuolo on August 4th in the qualifying match for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League , when they beat FC Luzern 3-0 in the second leg of the third round. Sensi first met on November 16, 2016 in the game against Crotone .

On July 2, 2019, Stefano Sensi switched to a loan deal with league competitor Inter Milan , who also secured a purchase option of around 20 million euros. With the Nerazzurri he acclimatized quickly and was an important part of the team of neo head coach Antonio Conte from the start . Already in his first competitive game in the 4-0 home win against newly promoted US Lecce on August 26th (1st matchday), he scored and in the following games he collected more points. In the 1: 2 home defeat against Juventus Turin on matchday 8, he was replaced after half an hour due to an adductor injury, which then caused him to be out for several weeks. After recovering from injury, he reintegrated in good shape with the Nerazzuri . The game against Cagliari on matchday 21, however, should be the preliminary end of the season for Sensi. Due to an injury to the hamstring muscles , he was out for the rest of the season.

National team

Sensi represented Italy's U-17 in a game against Germany . He made his debut for the U-20s on October 7, 2015 in a 2-2 draw against Poland .

Sensi made his debut for the Italian A-selection on November 20, 2018 in a friendly against the United States .

He scored his first goal in his second international match on March 26, 2019 in a 6-0 home win against Liechtenstein in qualifying for the 2020 European Championship .
