Matteo Politano (born August 3, 1993 in Rome ) is an Italian football player . The left-footed winger is under contract with Inter Milan and on loan to SSC Napoli .
Career
In the club
Politano moved in 2004 from Selva Candida to the youth of AS Roma , which he went through until 2012.
With the takeover in the professional field, he was awarded to the AC Perugia Calcio in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione . In the 2012/13 season he scored eight goals in 28 league games. After the end of the loan he moved from Roma to Delfino Pescara 1936 in the series B . In two years, Politano scored eleven goals in 72 games for the Delfini , who only missed promotion to Serie A in the play-off final in the 2014/15 season .
In the summer of 2015 AS Roma brought Politano back from Pescara, but immediately loaned him to the US Sassuolo Calcio . In his first Serie A season 2015/16 , Politano was mostly substituted on, but with Sassuolo he qualified for the UEFA Europa League . In this Sassuolo prevailed, but failed in the 2016/17 season in the group stage. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , Politano was firmly committed and is Sassuolo's regular player.
In the summer of 2018, Politano moved to Inter Milan , initially on loan with a purchase option, which the new club redeemed on June 12, 2019 to take over the player. Under the new Inter coach Antonio Conte and his 3-5-2 game system, the winger, unsuitable as an outside runner in the five-man midfield, only got partial missions as a hanging tip. In January 2020, a change back to his youth club AS Roma in exchange for outside runner Leonardo Spinazzola failed due to disagreements over the conditions under which the initial loan-swap would have been converted into a definitive transfer of the players by the end of the 2019/20 season.
Politano then switched to SSC Napoli on January 28, 2020 on loan . At the end of the loan transaction on June 30, 2021, there is a purchase obligation.
In the national team
Politano played through the U-19 , U-20 and U-21 national team of Italy from 2012 to 2014 and scored three goals for the Azzurrini in a total of 14 games .
In November 2016, Politano was nominated for the first time for the Italian national team by Gian Piero Ventura , but remained without a mission. After further nominations without appearances, his debut for the Azzurri followed in May 2017 . On May 31, 2017, he came on as a substitute in the friendly against San Marino and made it 7-0.
