Fabián Ruiz , full name Fabián Ruiz Peña (born April 3, 1996 in Los Palacios y Villafranca ), is a Spanish football player who has been under contract with SSC Napoli since July 2018 . He has also been a Spanish international since June 2019 .

Club career

Betis Seville

Born in Los Palacios y Villafranca , Fabián started playing football at an early age for the local club EF La Unión . In 2004, at the age of eight, he moved to the Betis Seville youth department . In 2014 Fabián joined the club's reserve team, who were playing in Segunda Division B at the time. He played his first game on September 21, when he was substituted on for FC Marbella at half-time. The game ended with his team losing 4-1.

On December 13, 2014, Fabián made his first appearance for the professional Betis team in the Segunda División . In the game against CD Lugo , he came on in the 51st minute for Xavi Torres . In the same season, Betis Sevilla managed to rise again after relegation last year. He played his first game in Spain's top division on August 23, 2015. In the 1-1 draw against Villarreal CF , he was substituted on for Alfred N'Diaye .

Fabián extended his contract to 2019 on December 23, but was loaned to the second division Elche on January 2 . He scored his first professional goal on March 17, 2017. This goal, which he scored in Elche's 3-1 away win against Gimnàstic de Tarragona , was the only one for Elche in 18 appearances.

For the season 2017/18 returned Fabián back to Seville. There the midfielder celebrated his breakthrough and was able to play in the starting lineup in a short time. In 34 appearances in the league, he was able to score three goals and contribute six templates.

SSC Naples

For the 2018/19 season , SSC Napoli drew Fabián's release clause of 30 million euros. The Spaniard signed a contract with the Serie A club until 2023. He scored his first goal for the Azzurri on October 20 in a 3-0 away win against Udinese Calcio . In 40 cross-competition appearances, Fabián Ruiz scored seven goals and prepared two more.

National team

Fabián already represented his home country in U19 and U21 national teams before being nominated for the first time by coach Luis Enrique for the A selection in March 2019 . However, his debut only followed on June 7, 2019 in a 4-1 away win in qualifying for the 2020 European Championship against Faroe Islands . On November 18, he scored his first international goal in a 5-0 home win in the qualifier against Romania .
