Faouzi Ghoulam ( Arabic فوزي غلام, DMG Fauzī Ġulām ; * February 1, 1991 in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez , Loire department ) is a French - Algerian football player who has been under contract with the Italian first division club SSC Napoli since the beginning of 2014 . He is also a national player for Algeria and mainly plays as a left full-back .

Born in France to Algerian parents , Ghoulam began playing football at the age of seven at Nouvelle-Défense Saint-Étienne and continued it a year later in the youth department of AS Saint-Étienne. At the age of 19 he moved up to the first team, for which he made his debut on September 22, 2010 in the Coupe de la Ligue , the French cup competition, in a 2-0 home win against OGC Nice . On December 1, 2010 (13th matchday) he finally made his 66-minute debut in Ligue 1 , France's top division, in a 1-1 draw in the away game against Valenciennes FC . His only point goal he scored on September 24, 2013 (7th matchday) in the 1: 2 defeat in the away game against Olympique Marseille with the goal of the final score with a penalty in the 32nd minute.

On January 31, 2014, his move to SSC Napoli was announced, where he signed a contract dated June 30, 2018. The transfer fee was five million euros. He made his debut in Serie A , the top division in Italy, on February 2, 2014 (22nd matchday) in the 3-0 defeat in the away game against Atalanta Bergamo .

National team

On June 2, 2012 Ghoulam completed his first international match when he won with the U-21 national team in the qualifying match for the U-21 European Championship 2013 in Sedan against the selection of Latvia 3-0. He was then appointed to the squad for the Africa Cup 2013 in January 2013 ; in the three group matches that his team finished fourth and eliminated from the tournament, he was not used.
