Kalidou Koulibaly (born June 20, 1991 in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges , France ) is a Senegalese soccer player who has played in Serie A at SSC Napoli since 2014 . He is the captain of the Senegalese national football team .

Career

Koulibaly began his career in France with SR Saint-Dié ; then he moved to the second division team FC Metz , for whom he made his Ligue 2 debut in August 2010 . After relegation from Metz, he moved to Belgium for first division team KRC Genk in summer 2012 . After two years in Belgium, he went to Italy for SSC Napoli in 2014 .

At a game of his club against Inter Milan in December 2018, Koulibaly was racially insulted with a monkey roar. Milan's Mayor Giuseppe Sala then apologized on behalf of his city.

National team

After Koulibaly had previously played for French junior teams, he decided to play for Senegal for the first time in 2015. He made his debut on September 5, 2015, when Senegal beat Namibia 2-0 in the Africa Cup qualifiers. At the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon, Koulibaly and his team made it to the quarter-finals, when they were ultimately eliminated from the tournament after a penalty shoot-out against Cameroon.

At the 2018 World Cup , he was part of the Senegalese squad . He was on the pitch in all three games during the preliminary round for the entire season.
