Career

society

Demme began playing football in the youth department of SpVg Hiddenhausen. Through the club SV Sundern, which is also based in Hiddenhausen , the SV Enger-Westerenger and the JSG Kirchlengern Stift Quernheim, he moved to Arminia Bielefeld's youth training center in 2004 . After good performance in the second Arminia team, he made his professional debut on December 4, 2010 in the second division game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the starting line-up.

After the 2010/11 season , Demme moved to the Bielefeld labor court to sue for a contract extension. Arminia Bielefeld had wanted to use an alleged option, whereby the previous contract with Demme should be extended by one year.

During the 2011/12 winter break, Demme moved to second division rivals SC Paderborn 07 , for whom he played 58 league games.

On January 8, 2014, the midfielder was signed by the third division club RB Leipzig. He signed a contract valid until June 2018. At the end of the 2013/14 season he was promoted to the second division with Leipzig and to the Bundesliga in 2015/16 . He made his Bundesliga debut on August 28, 2016 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 away game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . He scored his first Bundesliga goal 4-0 on April 15, 2017 against SC Freiburg , where he lost an incisor when his opponent Pascal Stenzel kicked him . Demme played with Leipzig regularly in the European Cup since the runner-up in the first season and also acted as team captain at times. He was used in 214 competitive games, scored two goals and prepared 18 more goals.

As the second-longest serving professional behind Yussuf Poulsen Demme left Leipzig in the winter break of the season 2019/20 and moved to Napoli in the Italian Serie A . The newspaper Westfalen-Blatt , according to his training clubs Bielefeld and Paderborn were financially involved in the transfer. In the 2-0 win over AC Perugia in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia , the German made his competitive debut after being substituted on. This was followed by 10 more appearances in the league, the cup and the Champions League until the Europe-wide game operations were interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March 2020. After the game was resumed in Italy in mid-June, the midfielder was on the pitch for the full season in the cup semi-final second leg against Inter Milan , as well as in the final a few days later. On penalties he won with the club against Juventus and was able to celebrate his first title win with him.

National team

Joachim Löw nominated Demme for the German national team for the Confederations Cup in the summer of 2017, in which Löw did not rely on regular players, but on a prospective team of young players. During that period, the qualifying game for the 2018 World Cup against San Marino took place on June 10, 2017 , as a factual part of the preparation . In view of the clear weakness of San Marino, it was played by the same team and in which Demme made his first appearance as he was substituted on in the 78th minute of the game. Shortly before the start of the tournament, Demme had to cancel his participation due to back problems.
