Target connection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A target compound , also called target molecule is in the chemical , the desired end product of a chemical synthesis .

Synthesis planning

Starting from the target compound, retrosynthetic synthesis steps or intermediate products are taken into account until one arrives at ever simpler compounds that appear suitable as starting molecules . Often there are several synthetic routes that appear sensible for the target molecule. Then it is advisable to set up a synthesis tree. A keen analytical mind is required to successfully plan a synthesis tree.
