Giovanni di Lorenzo
Giovanni di Lorenzo (born March 9, 1959 in Stockholm ) is a German - Italian journalist , author and television presenter . He is editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , co-editor of the Berliner Tagesspiegel and host of the talk show 3 nach 9 on Radio Bremen .
Life
Di Lorenzo grew up as the son of an Italian and a German, initially in Rome , where he attended the German School . From the age of eleven he lived with his twin brother Marco and his mother in Hanover , where he first attended the Ratsgymnasium and later the Tellkampfschule until he graduated from high school . He studied communication science , political science and modern and recent history at the LMU in Munich . He wrote his master's thesis on the strategy and rise of private television in Italy using the example of Silvio Berlusconi's networks .
Di Lorenzo was in a relationship with the presenter Sabrina Staubitz from 2005 to 2015 ; their daughter was born in 2008.
job
He began his journalistic activity in 1979 at the Hanover daily newspaper Neue Presse (until 1982), where he met his journalistic mentor Michael Radtke . He also worked for the city magazine skull splitter .
Di Lorenzo made his first experiences on television with Live aus dem Alabama , the weekly youth magazine of the Bavarian Radio , from March 1984 he added to the moderation team. In 1988 and 1989 he moderated the ARD culture report live from the Munich Film Festival . He has co -hosted the TV talk show 3 to 9 since 1989 .
From 1985 to 1986 he worked as a consultant on the redesign of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Münchner Stadtanzeiger . In May 1987 di Lorenzo became a member of the internal political editorial team of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and from May 1994 until the end of 1998 he was the head of the report section, which was reserved for page three. At the beginning of 1999 he changed to the Berlin daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel as editor-in-chief . Since August 2004 he has been editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit, which is also published by the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group . He also became one of the current three editors of the Tagesspiegel.
In November 2011 he published a four-page interview with Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and shortly afterwards a book together with Guttenberg. The length and content of the interview resulted in numerous reader complaints and was criticized by a large part of the German press: He was accused of particularly lacking distance, if not advertising. Di Lorenzo replied that Guttenberg could be given a forum since he was neither an extremist nor a criminal. A return Guttenberg does not depend on him as a journalist, but on the voters. In April 2012, he told the Berliner Zeitung that the book was a mistake that he regrets.
Others
Di Lorenzo's first newspaper article appeared under the pseudonym Hans Lorenz, as the editor in charge thought di Lorenzo's name was an artist name and he found it too imaginative.
In 1992 di Lorenzo was co-organizer of the first German fairy lights against xenophobia under the motto Munich - a city says no.
Based on his book about a right-wing radical in 1984, the then presenter Amelie Fried di Lorenzo selected for a program on the subject of right-wing radicalism on Live from Alabama . Both were connected by studying together. In the same year di Lorenzo took over the co-moderation. Di Lorenzo: “I came as a guest and left as a moderator.” In 1998, di Lorenzo “returned the favor” to Amelie Fried when a successor to the late Juliane Bartel was sought at 3 to 9 . From 1998 until Fried left in August 2009, they hosted the talk show together. From September 2009 to January 2010 Charlotte Roche was the moderator of the format alongside di Lorenzo, and Judith Rakers has been moderator since July 2010 .
In 1987 he shot the series Letters from Italy for Bayerischer Rundfunk , where he alternated with Aviva Ronnefeld to report on Italian cities and regions.
Giovanni di Lorenzo is a member of the boards of trustees of the ZEIT Foundation and the Journalists Network and the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation . He volunteers for the German bone marrow donor database and for the processing of the SED dictatorship. Since 2003 he has been a founding member of the Friends of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial .
Di Lorenzo is one of the initiators of the Charter of Fundamental Digital Rights of the European Union , which was published at the end of November 2016.
Double election proceedings
On the evening of the 2014 European elections , di Lorenzo said on the political talk show Günther Jauch that he had voted twice because of his dual nationality. According to Section 6 (4) of the European Election Act, this is not permitted. On the basis of a criminal complaint from an AfD regional association, the Hamburg public prosecutor's office investigated suspected election fraud under Section 107a of the Criminal Code . Di Lorenzo justified his behavior by stating that, as a German as well as an Italian citizen, he had received an election notification and was not aware that he was only allowed to vote in one country. He regrets his behavior. The investigation was closed after di Lorenzo paid a 'substantial amount' as a fine in November 2014.
