Timothy Toroitich (born October 10, 1991 in Bukwo ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Timothy Toroitich gained his first international experience at the 2009 World Cross Country Championships in Amman , where he finished 25th in the junior race and fourth in the team ranking. At the 2010 World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz , he won the bronze medal in the U20 team and took thirteenth place in the individual ranking. Three years later, he was fifth in the general class at the 2013 World Cross Country Championships . Over 10,000 meters he qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he finished 22nd in 28: 33.61 minutes .

In 2014 he took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Scotland , where he finished 11th over 5000 meters and eighth over 10,000 meters. Before that he ran at the African Cross Country Championships in Kampala on 16th place.

At the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships Guiyang he reached 27th place and finished at the World Championships in Beijing in the 10,000 meters in 27: 44.90 minutes to eighth place . In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he also finished 23rd over 10,000 meters with 28: 04.84 min . He finished ninth
at the 2017 World Cross Country Championships in Kampala and won the bronze medal with the Ugandan team. At the World Championships in London he finished 14th in 27: 21.09 minutes in the 10,000 meter final . In 2017, Toroitich also became the Ugandan champion in the 10,000 meter run.

At the Commonwealth Games 2018 in the Australian Gold Coast , he competed over 10,000 meters and finished seventh in 27: 47.35 minutes. He then won the bronze medal behind the two Ethiopians Jemal Yimer and Andamlak Belihu at the African Championships in Asaba over 10,000 meters in 29: 11.87 s .
