Leandro Damião da Silva dos Santos (born July 22, 1989 in Jardim Alegre , Paraná ), Leandro Damião for short , is a Brazilian football player who is under contract with Kawasaki Frontale .
Career
society
Damião learned to play football on the city streets. He began his actual career in the youth of CA Hermann Aichinger , where he played until 2007. From 2007 he was awarded to Marcílio Dias , CA Tubarão and the Internacional Porto Alegre , where he was first used in the B team. For the 2010 season Damião was signed by International and became an integral part of the first team and national team. With his team he made it into the final of the Copa Libertadores in the same year . After he was not used by coach Celso Roth in the first leg, in the 2-1 away win, he was used in the back game from the 66th minute when the score was 1-1 for Taison . Shortly afterwards, the attacker scored the 2-1 opening goal. The game was won 3-2 and Internacional could call themselves Copa Libertadores winners.
In December 2013, Damião moved to league rivals FC Santos , who, according to media reports, transferred a transfer fee of around 13 million euros to his old club. After just one season, the player was loaned to the Cruzeiro EC in Belo Horizonte for one year in early 2015 .
In February 2016 Damiāo moved to Europe and joined the Spanish first division club Betis Sevilla . With the Andalusians he signed a contract until the end of the season .
National team
Damião made his debut for Brazil on March 27, 2011 in a 2-0 win over Scotland . He played for 78 minutes and was replaced by Jonas . On May 19, 2011, national coach Menezes appointed him to the provisional squad for the 2011 Copa America in Argentina . During the preparation he played his second international game in a 0-0 draw against the Netherlands . Damião did not make it into the final 23-man squad.
In 2012 he took part with the Olympic team at the Olympic Games in London , where Brazil wanted to win the gold medal for the first time. In the final, however, Brazil had to admit defeat to the Mexican team 1: 2 . He was used in all six games and was the tournament's top scorer with six goals.
Damião was injured and had to forego the 2013 Confederations Cup , which the Brazilian team won. Damião injured himself training with the Seleção a few weeks before the tournament and was replaced by Jô .
