Óscar Esaú Duarte Gaitán (born June 3, 1989 in Masaya , Nicaragua ) is a Costa Rican national soccer player.
Career
society
After stints in the domestic first division at CD Saprissa and Puntarenas FC , Duarte joined the Belgian first division club FC Brugge in 2013 . There he soon developed into a regular player and became champion and cup winner .
In January 2016 Duarte left Bruges and joined Espanyol Barcelona . He made his debut in Barcelona on January 31, 2016 against Real Madrid .
Since August 1, 2019 he has been playing for league rivals UD Levante .
National team
Duarte made his debut on November 18, 2010 in a 0-0 draw against Jamaica for the Costa Rican national soccer team . He achieved notoriety beyond the borders of Costa Rica and Belgium with his goal to make it 2-1 in the 3-1 opening win against Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This goal was also his first international goal. In the round of 16 against Greece , which Costa Rica won on penalties, Duarte saw the yellow-red card so that he was suspended for the following quarter-final game against the Netherlands . After a 3: 4 defeat n. E. Costa Rica was eliminated from the tournament. Also in 2018 Duarte took part in the World Cup with Costa Rica .
