Career
In the club
His career as a professional footballer began with the Brazilian club Cruzeiro EC from Belo Horizonte . There he played from January 2001 to June 2004. A month later, he moved to AS Monaco to make his international breakthrough there. He was able to achieve this goal, because he became a regular player and a support in the defense. After two years at AS Monaco, he moved to Italy to Inter Milan , where he was able to secure a regular place despite strong competition.
In the second leg of the second leg of the Champions League 2006/07 season against Valencia CF there were tussles after the final whistle. The turmoil began after Valencia's captain Carlos Marchena kicked Nicolás Burdisso following a verbal argument . Almost all of the players were involved in fights on the center circle, including Maicon. Eventually, the Brazilian was suspended from UEFA for six games. However, Inter appealed and was successful in that Maicon's suspension was reduced to three games.
In the 2009/10 season Maicon won the triple with Inter Milan under the coach José Mourinho , consisting of the Italian championship , Italian cup and the UEFA Champions League .
On August 31, 2012 Maicon moved to the Premier League club Manchester City .
On July 17, 2013 Maicon left the club again and moved to AS Roma . He joined Avaí FC in May 2017 .

Since then he has won the Copa América ( 2004 , 2007 ) and the Confederations Cup ( 2005 , 2009 ) with the national team . The defender for Brazil also took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . In his team's first group game against North Korea , he scored the 1-0.
