Luis Ernesto Michel Vergara (born July 21, 1979 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a Mexican football goalkeeper who was nicknamed El Gato (the cat) because of his excellent reflexes .
biography

Michel already played as a child and youth in the youth teams of Chivas Guadalajara , in whose ranks he also made his first division debut in an away game at CD Irapuato on September 24, 2003 , which Chivas won 3-2.
Because there was no chance for the talented goalkeeper to oust number one seeded team-mate Oswaldo Sánchez out of the gate, Michel was transferred to league rivals Santos Laguna . However, Michel soon returned to Guadalajara and played frequently for Chivas Coras , a reserve team for Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Occasionally he was also used in the first team when Oswaldo Sánchez was also in action for the national team . Since his departure to Santos Laguna in January 2007, Michel has been the goalkeeper of his long-standing club Chivas Guadalajara and since January 11, 2010 he has also been team captain .
National team
Luis Ernesto Michel made his international debut for the Mexican national soccer team in a friendly against New Zealand (2-0) on March 3, 2010. His fourth and so far last international match was on May 30, 2010 in a friendly against Gambia, Mexico, held in Germany won 5-1 and Michel had to accept his first goal in an international match. Michel was also part of the Mexico squad at the 2010 World Cup , but was not used.
