Ganso , real name Paulo Henrique Chagas de Lima (born  October 12, 1989 in Ananindeua , Pará ), also known in Brazil as Paulo Henrique Ganso , is a Brazilian football player . With FC Santos he won the Copa Libertadores 2011, among others .

Career

Ganso was discovered by the former national player Giovanni and began his football career in his youth club Tuna Luso . In 2005 he moved to Paysandu SC , but less than a year later he was signed by the Brazilian top club Santos FC .

After a serious injury that left him out for six months in 2007, he and his team won the U-20 state championship in São Paulo in 2007 and 2008.

On May 11, 2008 (1st Round) Ganso debut in the match against Flamengo in the Series A . He scored his first goal on July 4, 2009, the 9th matchday of the 2009 season, for a 1-0 win over Sport Recife . That season he scored four goals in 29 games.

In 2010, Ganso won the São Paulo State Championship and the Brazilian Cup with Santos FC . He was then named the best player in both competitions. In the 2010 Série A season, which began as every year in May and thus after the state championships, he also played regularly at first. He also made his Copa Sudamericana debut on August 13, 2010 in the second round against Avaí FC , followed by another appearance in the second leg, which took place six days later. In late August 2010, Ganso tore a cruciate ligament , which again forced him to take a break of more than six months. On March 17, 2011 he finally made his comeback in the Copa Libertadores game against CSD Colo-Colo , the game was also his first in this competition. After another injury in May 2011, he got fit again in time for the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final and secured the title in the most important competition in South American club football with his team by beating CA Peñarol from Uruguay 2-1 . At the subsequent FIFA Club World Cup in December 2011, Ganso was used in both FC Santos games, with Santos losing 4-0 to FC Barcelona in the final .

In one of the largest transactions in the history of Brazilian football, Ganso moved to São Paulo FC in September 2012 . He signed a five-year contract until the end of 2017 and Santos received around 45% of the rights to the player, around 24 million reais . In its official presentation, it was celebrated by more than 40,000 people in the Morumbi Stadium .

In July 2016 he moved to Spain for Sevilla FC . After two seasons with little inserts Ganso changed in August 2018 loan to France to Amiens SC . Shortly after the 2018/19 winter break, it was announced that Ganso was returning to Brazil. He switched permanently to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro . The contract had a term of five years.

National team

Ganso took part in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 . During the tournament he was used seven times, where he was able to contribute a hit in the group game against Australia. Also in the final against Ghana, which was unfortunately lost 3-4 on penalties, Ganso was on the field.

In May 2010, Ganso was appointed to the expanded squad of the Brazilian national team for the 2010 World Cup and should go to South Africa as a substitute for the injured Kaká . However, with Kaká getting fit in time, Ganso was ultimately not included in the final squad. After the Brazilian senior team disappointing extending Cup in South Africa, Ganso came on 10 August 2010 at the first friendly match after the World Cup - a 2: 0 victory against the United States in New Jersey - under new coach Mano Menezes his first Appearance in the Seleção Since then, the midfielder has been called up on a regular basis.

On May 19, 2011, national coach Mano Menezes announced the provisional squad for the 2011 Copa America in Argentina , which Ganso did not initially belong to due to injury. In the final 23-man squad , however, he was represented. At the Copa America, Ganso played in the jersey with the “number 10” in all four games in Brazil, but failed with his team in the quarter-finals against Paraguay .

In 2012 he took part with the Olympic team at the Olympic Games in London , where Brazil wanted to win the gold medal for the first time. In the final, however, Brazil had to admit defeat to the Mexican team 1: 2 . Ganso was only used in the first two games.

In 2016, the player was briefly appointed to the squad for the Copa America 2016 after Kaká had to cancel due to an injury.
