Sandro Raniere Guimarães Cordeiro , Sandro for short , (born March 15, 1989 in Riachinho , Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian football player.
Career
In the club
Sandro comes from the SC Internacional youth academy , where he signed a professional contract in 2007 when he was 18 years old. He was trained as a defensive midfielder who also regularly sets accents on the offensive.
Large clubs in Europe quickly became aware of him. At the end of August 2009, Tottenham Hotspur offered a sum of £ 14 million . However, the President Vitório Piffero rejected the offer for the time being. But on October 20, both clubs agreed that Tottenham would have an option for every Brazilian youth player. After that deal, rumors surfaced that the deal was as good as perfect and Sandro would most likely switch to the January winter transfer period. Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp then again expressed interest in Sandro six days later and the club made another offer of £ 14 million .
On March 10, Vitório Piffero confirmed the move to Tottenham, but only after the Copa Libertadores . The transfer fee was estimated at ten million euros, although the contract has not yet been signed. Thirteen days later, both parties announced the change on their websites and it was agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. There it was also stated that Sandro, as already confirmed by the president, would only change after the end of the Copa Libertadores , which ended on August 18th, but he had already been medically checked in England beforehand.
On March 26, Tottenham announced the transfer was complete and Sandro would join the team at the end of the Copa Libertadores. In an interview, he said his move to England was a big step for him and Tottenham is the ideal club to develop year after year. On August 18, Sandro won with SC Internacional , the Copa Libertadores in 2010 with 5: 3 on aggregate match against Mexican club Guadalajara reach and should be in the following week on English soil. After he still did not arrive on August 29, the Spurs announced that he should arrive in London next week . But only three days later he was there. On September 21, he played his first game in a 4-1 defeat in the Carling Cup against city rivals Arsenal . Almost two weeks later, on October 2, he also played his first Premier League game in a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa .
On February 15, 2011 he played his first game in the UEFA Champions League against the seven-time winner, AC Milan . In the 0-0 draw in the second leg at White Hart Lane , he was voted Player of the Game. He had to wait for his first goal for Tottenham until April 30 (matchday 35). Against Chelsea , he scored a nice volley from 35 meters away in the 19th minute. But in the end, Chelsea turned the game to a 2-1.
On September 1, 2014, Sandro moved to the Queens Park Rangers . He signed a three-year contract with the newcomer until June 30, 2017.
For the second half of the 2016/17 season he moved to the Turkish first division club Antalyaspor .
In January 2018, Sandro switched to Benevento Calcio on loan , followed by a move to CFC Genoa in the summer . After a loan to Udinese Calcio , Sandro moved back to Brazil to Goiás EC in early 2020 .
In the national team
Sandro Raniere played for the Brazilian U-20 national team in 2008 and 2009 , which he led as captain of the Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20 in 2009. In total, he played eight games in the Campeonato Sub-20, in which he scored one goal. His first international match was on 9 September 2009 when he came on for Júlio Baptista in the 68th minute of the World Cup qualifier against Chile . At the 2010 World Cup , he was one of seven players who would have been promoted to the World Cup squad due to an injury to a nominated player. On October 7, 2010, he played his second international match in a 3-0 away win over Iran . Since then the midfielder has been called up regularly. In the summer of 2011, he was for the Copa America in Argentina nominated .
In 2012 he took part with the Olympic team at the Olympic Games in London , where Brazil wanted to win the gold medal for the first time.
