Luis Antonio Valencia Mosquera (born August 4, 1985 in Nueva Loja ) is an Ecuadorian football player . The 1.81 m tall midfielder is considered one of the best active players in his country. Mainly Valencia is used as a right defender. In addition to his speed, his outstanding technology is one of his strengths.

Valencia began his footballing career at Caribe Juniors in his hometown and moved to the first division CD El Nacional in Quito in 2001 , where he made his first division debut in 2003. In the summer of 2005, Valencia left his club for Europe. He signed with the Spanish first division club Villarreal . After he came to only two appearances in the Primera División in the first half of the season, he was loaned to the second division club Recreativo Huelva in early January 2006 . In the 2006/07 season, Valencia played, also on loan, with Wigan Athletic in the English Premier League . The loan contract with Wigan was extended for the 2007/08 season and converted into a definitive change in January 2008 with a contract for three and a half years.
In June 2009, Valencia's move to Manchester United was announced, where the Ecuadorian would replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who had migrated to Real Madrid . In early August 2011, he extended his contract with Manchester United for four years until 2015.
At the end of June 2019, Valencia returned to Ecuador and joined LDU Quito .
National team
He made his debut for the Ecuadorian national soccer team in a friendly against Honduras in Fort Lauderdale. In the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on March 27, 2005, he caused a stir, as he contributed two goals to the 5-2 success of his team.
