Giancarlo Maldonado (born June 29, 1982 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan football player on the position of a striker .

career

Maldonado, who is of Uruguayan descent, began his football career in the youth division of the Uruguayan club River Plate Montevideo , where he also received his first professional contract . 2001 Maldonado returned to his homeland after he was signed by the Club Nacional Táchira , with which he immediately won the Venezuelan football championship in the 2001/02 season . After further stints at AC Mineros de Guayana and UA Maracaibo , with whom he was again Venezuelan champion in 2004/05, Maldonado moved in 2006 to promoted to the first Chilean league , CD O'Higgins .

In 2007 Maldonado signed with the Mexican first division club CF Atlante , with whom he immediately won the Mexican football championship in the 2007 Apertura and the CONCACAF Champions League in the following season 2008/09 . Maldonado was under contract with the Potros de Hierro until the end of 2011, although he also played on loan for the Spanish club Deportivo Xerez and the US franchise Chivas USA . After another stint at the Mexican Atlas Guadalajara , Maldonado returned to his homeland in the summer of 2012, where he initially worked again for the Mineros de Guayana and then Deportivo Táchira and Estudiantes de Mérida and currently plays for Atlético Venezuela . In the meantime he played again in the 2014/15 season for CF Atlante, which now only plays in the second Mexican league , and then for six months for Club Real España, which is represented in the first Honduran league .

From 2003 to 2011 Maldonado played a total of 64 missions for the Venezuelan national team and was the record scorer of the Vinotintos with 22 goals until he was overtaken by Juan Arango .
