Rafael Márquez Lugo (born November 2, 1981 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican football player on the position of the striker .

Life

Rafael Márquez began his professional career at his "home club" Club Universidad Nacional , for which he made his debut in the Mexican Primera División on September 10, 2000 in a home game against CF Monterrey (0-0). He scored his first goal on October 21, 2001 in the home game against CF La Piedad , to whose 2-1 victory he contributed the opening goal to make it 1-0 in the eleventh minute.

His longest stint was at CA Monarcas Morelia , for which he played a total of 172 games in two stages (first from early 2004 to mid-2007 and then in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons), in which he scored 58 goals. Currently (2012/13 season) Márquez Lugo is under contract with Club Deportivo Guadalajara .

National team

In 2004, Márquez was part of the Mexican U23 national team , which represented Mexico at the 2004 Olympic soccer tournament .

Márquez made his debut in the jersey of the Mexican national team on October 27, 2004 in a 2-1 (1-0) win over Ecuador, when he played the entire first half.

In 2005 he was part of the team of Mexicans at the Confederations Cup held in Germany , but was only used in Mexico's last game against hosts Germany in the game for third place. Immediately after the 2: 3 deficit, Márquez came on for Ramón Morales in the 81st minute and played a total of 39 minutes because the game was extended to 3: 3 by a late goal from Jared Borgetti and a goal from Michael Ballack was won 4: 3 by the hosts.

His only international goal (so far) was achieved by Márquez on January 25, 2012 in a 3-1 win over Venezuela, when he came on in the 68th minute when the score was 0-1. Carlos Salcido equalized in the 69th minute , before Márquez scored the 2-1 in the 88th minute and Oribe Peralta scored the final score in the 89th minute.
