Cayetano Saporiti (born January 14, 1887 in Montevideo , † 1954 ibid) was a Uruguayan football player .

Goalkeeper Saporiti started playing football at the Club de Football Treinta y Tres when he was ten . He stayed there until 1902. At the end of that year he joined the Montevideo Wanderers . After three appearances in the second division, he made his debut in the first team in 1903 at the age of 16. He then belonged to at least 1903, 1905 to 1911 and 1917 to 1920 the Wanderers competing in the Primera División . In 1906 and 1909 his team celebrated winning the Uruguayan championship. In 1908 and 1910, the Copa de Honor retained the upper hand, as did the Copa Competencia in 1906, 1911, 1917 and 1918 . In total, Saporiti completed 342 games for the Wanderers. For the year 1905 a station at the Argentine club Barracas AC is also reported.

National team

Saporiti was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team . Overall, he completed from his debut on August 15, 1905 at the Copa Lipton against Argentina selection to his last game for the Celeste on May 29, 1919 against the Brazilian national football team 50 internationals. He had to accept 54 goals.

Saporiti took part with the national team in the 1910 South American Championship, also known as the Copa Centenario Revolución de Mayo . There he ran both in the game against the Chilean and against the Argentine selection.

He was also a member of the squad at the South American Championships in 1916 and 1917 . Uruguay emerged from both tournaments as title holders. Saporiti completed three games in each of the tournaments. In the decisive final game of the 1917 championship against the Argentines, he had to retire after 70 minutes injured and was replaced for the rest of the season by defender Varela , as there were no substitutes at that time. Finally he came to the South American Championships in 1919 to three more missions. In this tournament, the team from the Río de la Plata had to admit defeat to the Brazilians only after extra time and finished second. This game also marked the end of Saporiti's international career.

In addition, Saporiti won with the domestic national team three times at the Copa Gran Premio de Honor Argentino (1908, 1910, 1918), at the Copa Gran Premio de Honor Uruguayo 1918, three times at the Copa Newton (1912, 1913, 1917) and four times at the Copa Lipton (1905, 1910, 1911, 1912).
