Nery Alberto Castillo Confalonieri (born June 13, 1984 in San Luis Potosí , Mexico ) is a Mexican football player . In addition to Mexican citizenship , Castillo also has Uruguayan citizenship .

Career

society

Castillo began his professional career in 1999 with Danubio FC in Uruguay. There he played his first first division game at the age of 15. During a youth tournament in Brazil, he was watched by various European clubs. His father, who also acts as an advisor, decided that moving to Manchester United would be the best option for him, but Castillo was unable to get a work permit in England . At the age of 16 he accepted an offer from Olympiacos Piraeus and moved to Greece , where he was able to establish himself as a regular player and played with Rivaldo , among others . As a result of good performances, the clubs Juventus Turin and Deportivo Guadalajara were interested in a commitment, but Olympiacos were not ready to give it up.

In addition to his good performance for the club, he was also noticed by derailments off the pitch. He was briefly suspended from training in October 2005 after a fight with Yaya Touré and Gabriel Schürrer .

In July 2007 Castillo finally went to Shakhtar Donetsk , from where, however, after only six months and eight league games for the remainder of the season to Manchester City . In the 2008/09 season he only came on two short appearances for Donetsk. His plans to leave Donetsk and move back to Mexico to Deportivo Guadalajara have so far failed because Donetsk refused to release the player. The contract with Shakhtar Donetsk ran until 2012. After he last played the Apertura 2012 for Pachuca , his move to the Mexican club Club León from the 2013 Clausura was announced in mid-December . The loan contract runs for a period of six months.

National team

Thanks to his remarkable performances at Olympiacos, the Mexican and Uruguayan federations became aware of him, for which he could both have played. However, he could not choose a country and was therefore initially without international matches. In 2007, Castillo lived in Greece for seven years, long enough to obtain Greek citizenship and play for the Greek national team. He is said to have been offered almost a million euros for this. He finally decided on the Mexican national team , for which he has played 17 games so far and has scored six goals. At the Copa América 2007 he reached third place with his team and was the third top scorer of the tournament.
