history

Unión San Felipe was founded on October 16, 1956 in the Chilean city of San Felipe . After two years in lower-class leagues, Uníon San Felipe succeeded in 1958, the first promotion to the Segunda División Chiles. In 1961 one rose to the Primera División , the top division in Chilean football. There the club was able to establish itself and reached places in the lower midfield in the next few years, but they were always enough to stay in the league. It was not until 1968 that they were relegated from the Primera División. After the promotion was missed in the first year, this was achieved in 1970 by a first place in the Segunda División. As a climber, Unión San Felipe caused a big sensation when they won the Chilean football championship in 1971. In the Primera División, first place was taken two points ahead of Universidad de Chile . This makes Unión San Felipe the only club in Chilean football that has won the second and first division in two consecutive years.

As the defending champion in the 1972 season, Unión San Felipe had huge problems and was barely able to hold the class, in the end the club separated two points from bottom of the table and relegated Everton . Also in 1973 relegation was achieved by reaching the penultimate place. In 1974 you finished last and had to relegate to the Segunda División. There followed long years in the second division, only in 1983 first division football was played again in San Felipe, which lasted until relegation in 1986. Apart from a short excursion to the first division in 1989, which ended immediately with the direct relegation, the club now played for almost two decades in the Segunda División before they could be promoted back to the Primera División in 2000. Since returning to the upper house of Chilean football in 2001, the club has been constantly commuting between the first and second division. In 2009 Unión San Felipe won the Chilean soccer cup, the Copa Chile, for the second time in its history. In the same year, the victory in Primera B managed to return to the Primera División Chiles, in which the club still plays and currently occupies positions in midfield.
