history

The association Deportes Puerto Montt was founded on May 6, 1983 in the city of Puerto Montt , which now has around 175,000 inhabitants in southern Chile . The newly founded club spent the first few years of its existence with a rapid ascent, which in 1990 almost ended with the jump to the Primera División . Due to the second place in the Primera División B, at that time still running under the name Segunda División , the first-time promotion to the top division was narrowly missed. This succeeded in 1996, Deportes Puerto Montt was able to hold four seasons from 1997 to 2000 in the Primera División. Particularly noteworthy is an eighth place in the 1998 season, which is the best placement of Deportes Puerto Montt in the Chilean Primera División to date.

In the Primera División 2000, Deportes Puerto Montt was relegated to Primera División B again, where they then spent two years before qualifying as champions of that same league in the 2002 season for the first Chilean league. This time it was even five seasons that Deportes Puerto Montt spent in the Primera División between 2003 and 2007, but there were no results that could approach eighth place from the 1998 season, which continues to be the club's best placement in the Primera División should remain. In 2007 they finished last in the relegation table and had to go back to the second division. To date, Deportes Puerto Montt has not been able to recover from this relegation and has not yet made it back to the highest level of Chilean club football. They played in the Primera División B since 2008. In 2012, Deportes Puerto Montt suffered relegation from this league, so that they are currently only playing in the third-highest division in Chile.
