The Neuwied fire brigade is the 37 office for fire, flood and disaster control in the city of Neuwied . It was founded in 1867 and consists of eight units of the volunteer fire department and the youth fire department in addition to the permanent fire department .
Areas of responsibility
The Office for Fire, Flood and Disaster Protection (Office 37) has taken on tasks for the city of Neuwied in accordance with the State, Fire and Disaster Protection Act (LBKG). The tasks are broken down as follows:
- Defensive fire protection
- Preventive fire and hazard protection
- General help from the Neuwied fire brigade
- Disaster control including operations in the event of floods as a water weir
- Civil defense
The fire brigade has been alerted via the integrated fire and rescue control center (ILS) Montabaur since 2008 .
Permanent fire service
The city of Neuwied has a unique model for its fire brigade, which was developed in 1926 by the then mayor Robert Krups . In order to adequately ensure fire protection for the approximately 65,000 residents in the city of Neuwied, the fire brigade employs ten full-time fire fighters on a day-to-day basis. If necessary, these are supported by 14 trained employees from the neighboring Stadtwerke Neuwied GmbH (SWN), with whom a fire brigade supply contract has been concluded. Outside the SWN business hours, the permanent fire service is on duty. The 28 members of the three guard departments live in residential buildings built especially for them right next to the fire station and receive a monthly allowance for their work .
Fire Brigade Operations Center
A fire brigade operations center (FEZ) is also operated by Stadtwerke Neuwied GmbH and is manned around the clock. In the event of major damage, the radio group ( ICT unit) of the fire brigade standby takes over the activities of the FEZ in the fire station.
Hazardous goods train
In Neuwied, a sub-unit of the Neuwied district hazardous goods train was set up, which is trained and equipped to provide technical assistance after accidents involving hazardous goods. The tasks of the sub-unit are NBC exploration, the removal of hazardous substances and radiation protection .
The Neuwied fire brigade 's hazardous goods train has a hazardous goods measuring vehicle (Mef-G), a Hazardous Goods 2 equipment trolley (GW-G2) and a multi-purpose decontamination vehicle (DMF). The Neuwied district bears the costs. The DMF and the GW-G2 are stationed on the Heimbach-Weis fire fighting train, the MEF-G on the Engers fire fighting train.
Waters
The Neuwied fire brigade is responsible for the safety of 13 kilometers of the Rhine . A multi-purpose boat and several lifeboats are available for this. In addition, flood protection is ensured by the fire brigade. This task includes, among other things, closing the gates of the Neuwied dike and controlling the dike during floods.
Volunteer firefighter
At the Neuwied fire brigade, around 270 volunteer firefighters do their job in eight fire engines. The Neuwied fire brigade's fleet consists of 37 vehicles including boats for water rescue.

Youth fire brigade
The youth fire brigade of the city of Neuwied was founded in 1978 and currently comprises around 50 young people. You have your own fire station in the Oberbieber district with two former emergency vehicles . One vehicle was on duty on the Gladbach fire engine. The LF 8/6 was loaned to the Niederbieber-Segendorf fire fighting train in 2017, but the vehicle is still used for youth fire brigade exercises and the MTF-P was taken over in 2009 and continues to be used.
Trivia
The downtown fire station employed an officially managed "duty cat" named Grisu . It was bought to keep the guard free from mice and dormice . On January 22, 2015, Grisu was run over by a car and died a short time later from his injuries.
