Bibi Russell ( beng .: বিবি রাসেল, * around 1954 in Chittagong ) is an entrepreneur and former top model from Bangladesh .

Life

The daughter of Mokhlessur Rahman and Shamsun Nahar grew up in Dhaka . In 1972 she left her homeland for London , where she became the first Bangladeshi woman to enroll at the London College of Fashion. There she obtained her university degree in 1975. She worked as a model for fashion shows and various magazines, including Vogue , Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar (which she discovered).

In 1994 she ended her modeling career and founded a collection with hand-woven fabrics in her home country in 1996 with the company Bibi Productions . In doing so, it provided active development aid and created thousands of jobs.

Redefine Beauty

In addition to the development aid that she provides for her country, she actively campaigns against violence against women in her home country: In 2017, Arte showed the film Women outraged , in which, within various video productions, a fashion show by Bibi Russell with surviving female victims of Acid attacks under the motto "Redefine Beauty" was shown.

Awards

In 2003 she received the " Change the World - Best Practice Prize " for projects promoting sustainable ecological change . She received the Knight's Cross of the Spanish Order of Isabellas the Catholic and has received several awards from UNESCO ( Designer for Development 1999; Artist for Peace 2001).
