Location of Block in Rhineland-Palatinate

Block is a district and a district of Neuwied in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until it was incorporated into the town of Neuwied, Block was part of the Heimbach-Weis community .

location

The district is located in the lowlands of the Neuwied Basin east of the city center. To the northeast of Block is the Heimbach-Weis district , to the east is the Engers district . Block borders the Rhine in the south . The Burghof and Sayntal residential areas are part of the Block district .

history

Finds from the Neolithic Age (3000 to 2000 BC) to the Frankish period show that Block was settled early on. Small finds have emerged from the Middle Ages. During the time when Neuwied was founded (1653), hardly any people settled here. A real settlement can be traced back to the later onset of pumice mining . At the beginning of the 20th century, 1,000 workers produced up to 110 million alluvial stones here each year , and the pumice was mostly extracted by hand.

Block got its name from the block station on the right bank of the Rhine railway line between Neuwied and Engers, which was built around 1867 .

Incorporation

Until it was incorporated into the town of Neuwied, the place belonged to the Heimbach-Weis community in the former Engers community. In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate territorial and administrative reform that began in the mid-1960s , the “Eighth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate” of July 28, 1970, which came into force on November 7, 1970, dissolved the community of Engers and the community Heimbach-Weis assigned to the new town of Neuwied. With the resolution of the Neuwied City Council on January 22, 1971, Block became a district, which is represented by a local advisory council and a local councilor.

The emblem-like logo of the district of Block was never used in the sense of an official coat of arms .
