Cortez began his career with Arturzinho . He then played for Botafogo FR (2011), São Paulo FC (2012-2013), Benfica Lisbon (2013), Criciúma EC (2014) and Albirex Niigata (2015-2016). In 2017 he switched to Grêmio Porto Alegre .
