Kappa is an Italian sporting goods manufacturer and a brand of BasicNet SpA based in Turin .

In the early years, men's and women's underwear was made. In its eventful history, Kappa has reoriented and redefined itself several times. Today the sports brand Kappa is a manufacturer and supplier for various sports.

Trademark

Today's logo of the couple leaning against each other came about by chance in 1969 when, after a photo shoot for swimwear, an exhausted couple sat back to back on the floor and a photographer took them in this pose. The Kappa logo is intended to symbolize the mutual support between men and women, in life and in sport, and to show the completion of one.

The brands' products are manufactured and sold worldwide through an international network of entrepreneurs and licensees. The German import and trade runs through Kappa Deutschland GmbH, a Kappa sales company, which is based in Norderstedt near Hamburg and belongs to the Schmidt Group AG, which is based there.

Sponsorship

The company was involved in various sports teams, particularly in football, when sponsorship began in the late 1970s, and in 1979 it became the first sponsor of Italian football at Juventus Turin . The brand became known around the world when American athletes wore Kappa sportswear at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Today, Kappa is represented in many sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey, golf, fencing, martial arts and skiing. Since 2012, Kappa has sponsored the Kappa FuturFestival , an electro festival in Turin.

In Germany, Kappa Deutschland GmbH equipped the football clubs FC St. Pauli , 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Werder Bremen , TSV 1860 Munich and from 2009/10 to 2011/12 Borussia Dortmund for several years . Kappa Germany has been the shirt supplier for Borussia Mönchengladbach since the 2013/14 season . In the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, Kappa was the supplier in Germany for VfL Wolfsburg after they replaced Adidas .

But especially in Italy, Kappa is very popular as a kit supplier. In addition to the national teams of numerous sports, u. a. the soccer teams Cagliari Calcio , US Sassuolo Calcio , SSC Napoli and FC Turin . Well-known football clubs outside of Italy are z. B. IFK Göteborg , Leeds United and FC Santos . In addition, the national soccer teams of Burkina Faso , Fiji , Oman and Réunion are dressed.
