The Estádio Manoel Barradas is a football stadium in the Brazilian city of Salvador in the state of Bahia . It has space for 35,980 spectators and serves as the home ground for the EC Vitória football club .
history
The Estádio Manoel Barradas, often just called Barradão for short , was completed in 1986. The opening took place on November 9th with a game between EC Vitória , the future user of the arena, and FC Santos . In the game, which ended 1-1, Dino, a FC Santos player, scored the first goal in the stadium. Since it opened, it has been used by EC Vitória from Salvador, a city in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia and the third largest city in Brazil after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro . The club's greatest success is winning the Bahia State Championship 25 times. In the first Brazilian league, the Série A , in which the club currently plays, the best result was a second place in the 1993 season behind SE Palmeiras . They also became the Brazilian vice cup winner in the 2010 season.
The Estádio Manoel Barradas has a capacity of 35,980 spectators. The attendance record was set in December 1993 at the final game of the Brazilian championship when 78,000 spectators came to the game against SE Palmeiras. At that time, however, the permitted capacity was also slightly higher than it is today. There are currently plans to build a new stadium. The planned arena should offer space for 30,000 spectators, although it should be possible to increase the capacity to 40,000 without any problems.
