The Campeonato Brasileiro Série B 2002 was the 23rd season of the second football league in Brazil .

Season course

The competition started its season on August 11, 2002 and ended on December 7, 2002. The championship was organized by the national association CBF . At the end of the season, the Criciúma EC celebrated the championship.

The competition was held in four phases. In the first round , the 26 clubs competed against each other in a group. A return leg was not planned. The best eight clubs moved on to the next round. The last six places in the table meant relegation to the Série C.

In the second round , the eight clubs met in a knockout round. From this quarter-finals onwards, the decisions were made in the first and second leg. The master and the runner-up rose to the first division in 2003 .

Attendees

The J. Malucelli Futebol qualified as 21st of the 2001 season but was excluded. For this, the third of the Série C 2001, the Guarany SC , followed.
