Douglas dos Santos , called Douglas , (born February 18, 1982 in Criciúma ) is a Brazilian football player .
Career
Douglas grew up in the junior teams of the Criciúma EC. In 2002, at the age of 20, he was promoted to the first squad. With the club he could in 2002 the Série B win.
After becoming a regular player in his home club, he took the first step towards an international career in 2005 and went to Turkey . At Rizespor he struggled with cultural adjustment difficulties and therefore went back to Brazil to Criciúma after only one season. With the club, the player managed to return to the Série B in 2006 .
In 2008 Douglas moved to São Caetano, where he drew attention to himself with such good performances that he moved to Corinthians in São Paulo at the end of the year . With these he managed in the 2009 season promotion to Série A of the Brazilian championship. Winning the Brazilian Cup in 2009 was also a success. He was seen as a top performer. After winning this title, his move to Dubai to al-Wasl was announced.
After another season, Douglas moved back to Gremio in Brazil in 2010. Here he quickly became a regular and high performer again. Despite his consistently good performances, rumors continued to circulate that other players would replace him. At the beginning of 2012, the player was allowed to return to his old place of work at Corinthians. Winning the Copa Libertadores in 2012 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2012 made the year the most successful of his career.
For the 2014 season, the player was signed for one year. He will play a key role in the club's promotion to the first division for the season. In 2015 Douglas returned to Grêmio, where he stayed until the beginning of 2019. In March 2019, he moved again to Avaí FC . After the championship in 2019 was over, the contract was terminated.
National team
In 2010 Douglas received his first and only appointment to the Brazilian national team . He was allowed to play in the international match against Argentina in Doha , Qatar on November 17, 2010 .
