The Clube Atlético Juventus , CAJ or Juventus-SP for short , is a Brazilian football club from São Paulo in the state of the same name .

history

The association was founded in 1924 by Cotonificio Rodolfo Crespi with the name Extra São Paulo . In the following year it was renamed Cotonificio Rodolfo Crespi Futebol Clube until it was given its current name in 1925. He was chosen by the club's founder in reminiscence of Juventus FC from Turin because he was a fan of this club. But his son was a supporter of Torino FC , so the colors for the CAJ were borrowed from it.

According to his own statement, Pelé ( FC Santos ) scored his best goal on August 2, 1959, in a Paulistão league game against CA Juventus.

From the 1980s, Juventus was regularly represented in the leagues of the national championship of Brazil . In 1983 the club became second division champions, but was unable to establish itself in the first division (Série A). In 1998 he was relegated from Série B and in 2007 also from Série C, which marked his last participation in the national championship. At the state level, too, a sporty decline has set in during this time. In 2008 the club was relegated from the first state league and in 2009 also from the second. After a brief stint in the second division in 2013, the club slipped back into the third division. As the first in the table in 2015, he was promoted to the second national league for the 2016 season.

In 1984 Juventus set up a women's squad for the first time and recruited them from players from the now defunct pioneer Ísis Pop EC . Thus, the club advanced to the top of women's football in the state for the next four years and was able to win all four state championships played during this time. The squad was disbanded after the championship in 1987, but the club has been continuously involved in women's football again since the turn of the millennium.
