The Peace Run (English literally for “Peace Run”) is a global torch relay which, according to the organizers, aims to promote peaceful coexistence. It was founded by the Indian spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy .

history

Isernia, Italy (2010)

In 1987 Sri Chinmoy founded the international "Peace Run", which was started in front of the UN in New York with ambassadors from different countries. At the beginning the run was held every two years, later on an annual cycle. Between 2005 and 2012 it was called the "World Harmony Run".

procedure

The team of international runners uses the torch to visit schools, institutions , associations , running clubs , as well as parliaments and town halls, churches , mosques , temples and synagogues . In schools, the runners come to presentations aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and international friendship. The Peace Run is organized and financed by volunteers . In 2014 it was taken through 100 countries and all continents . In Europe he covered 24,000 km and went through all countries.
