Georg Barlösius (born June 8, 1864 in Magdeburg ; † July 1908 ) was a German illustrator, graphic artist , typographer , lithographer and painter .

life and work

Georg Barlösius was the son of a factory owner. He studied at the teaching institute of the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin and from October 18, 1886 at the Munich Art Academy . He was also a student of Otto Knille . He settled in Charlottenburg .

He mainly devoted himself to book graphics and typography. Barlösius created the fonts Barlösius Gotisch and Fette Barlösius Gotisch (1907, Bauersche Gießerei ) and Barlösius Buchschrift (1906, Bauersche Gießerei). He designed and illustrated many books and designed numerous bookplates .

He also created wall paintings in the Theater des Westens (Charlottenburg) and colored glazing in the Dankeskirche (Berlin-Wedding) and in the Kaiserin-Augusta-Gymnasium (today Ludwig-Cauer-Grundschule, Charlottenburg).
