The EC Pinheiros is a former Brazilian football club from Curitiba , the capital of the state of Paraná . The three-time national champions, which went back to the Savóia FC club founded in 1914, bore the name EC Água Verde until 1971. In December 1989 the club was merged into what is now Paraná Clube .

Club history

Savóia FC

Savóia FC

Savóia FC

On July 14, 1914, the descendants of Italian immigrants founded a football club in the Água Verde district south of the city center of Curitiba, which was baptized in honor of the Italian dynasty of Casa Savóia under the name Savóia Futebol Clube . The club colors were taken from the Italian flag and were therefore green, red and white.

EC Agua Verede

Just a few months later, another sports club, the EC Água Verde , was founded in the same district , which was named after the name of its district and was given the club colors green and white.

In the 1920s, these two clubs merged under the name Savóia-Água Verde . After Brazil joined the Allies in World War II (1942) , many associations with names that made reference to the Axis powers Italy or Germany were encouraged to "Brazilianize" them. Savóia demonstratively changed its name to EC Brasil . Immediately after the end of the war in April 1945, the club took on the name of the previous club EC Água Verde and its colors green and white.

To differentiate itself from city rivals Coritiba FC , who have the same club colors, the club decided in 1960 for blue and white jerseys. The name was changed to EC Pinheiros - after the widespread tree Pinheiro-do-Paraná , the Brazilian araucaria , which also serves as a symbol of the state - took place on August 12, 1971. With effect from December 19, 1989, the EC Pinheiros merged with the EC Colorado, also based in Curitiba, to the Paraná Clube .

Sporting successes

Brazilian araucaria . In Brazil Pinheiro called

The club celebrated its greatest successes by winning three national championships in Paraná (1967 as Água Verde and 1984 and 1987 as EC Pinheiros ) and twice participating in the national soccer championship, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol , in 1981 and 1985. During The Pinheiros were only allowed to play nine games in 1981 because they were eliminated after the preliminary round - with the record of only one win, but a total of six draws and two defeats - they survived the preliminary round in 1985 and at least qualified for the intermediate round, which they overall 22 games made possible.

The record of their total of 31 games for the Campeonato Brasileiro is absolutely even: there were eight wins and eight defeats as well as 15 draws with a goal difference of 30:28 in favor of EC Pinheiro. Their minimalist style of play is reflected in their results: six draws each ended with 0: 0 and 1: 1. The most common winning result was 1-0 (scored five times) and the 0-1 result was the most frequent loss (three times). In the overall ranking of 1981 Pinheiros finished 34th of all Brazilian clubs and in 1985 they achieved the best placement in club history with 21st place.

The EC Pinheiros benefited most from its home strength in the games for the national championship. Of the total of 15 games (with a goal balance of 14: 9) he won five and drew nine times. He drew his only home defeat on March 30, 1985 1-0 against Ponte Preta . The away balance of 16 games is therefore three wins, six draws and seven defeats as well as a goal difference of 16:19.

In the last year of its existence, Pinheiros qualified for the only time in the club's history for the finals of the Brazilian Cup, the Copa do Brasil , where they lost twice (0: 1 and 1: 2) to the Mixto EC in July 1989 .

Best goal scorers

The club's top scorer in the games for the national championship is Enéias Camargo, who completed 19 games for the Pinheiros in the 1985 season and scored seven goals, which corresponds to an average of 0.37. Paulinho, who played in all nine games in 1981 and scored three goals, achieved a similarly successful rate (0.33). Rodolfo Carlos de Lima alias Capitão also scored three goals for the Pinheiros (in 11 games of the 1985 championship round), which corresponds to an average of 0.27. However, while Camargo's seven goals were spread over six games (he scored a brace only once) and Paulinho's three goals were scored in three separate games, Capitão was only successful in one game, where he won all of them on March 10, 1985 contributed three goals to his team's 3-1 victory at Corumbaense . Incidentally, it was the only one of the total of 31 championship games in which EC Pinheiros scored three goals!

Several players of the club or its legal predecessors were even able to take home the top scorer's crown at the Paraná state championship:
