Parmelina tiliacea (Syn .: Parmelia tiliacea (Hoffm.) Ach.) Is a species of leaf lichen from the family of Parmeliaceae that ismore common in Central Europe andgrows mainly on tree bark. The epithet "tiliacea" is derived from "tiliaceus" and means "linden". It is sometimes referred to as linden bowl lichen ,depending on the substrate on which it is more commonly found.

description

The species is a large-lobed leaf lichen . The top is white-gray to gray, smooth and matt. The lobes of the thallus of Parmelina tiliacea are rounded. The bearing is rosette and reaches 4 to 10 cm in diameter. It is deeply cut at the edge, the armpits are rounded. The lobes measure 2 to 10 × 3 to 6 millimeters. They are leathery, quite thick and more or less close fitting. The ends of the lobes are rounded but notched. The underside is black-brown, but becomes lighter towards the edge. It is completely occupied with simple to forked rhizines .

Sorals are absent. On the surface of the camp there are numerous, oblong-cylindrical to club-shaped, gray to gray-brown or blackish isidia . Their base is gray, their tip is brownish to black-brown and suddenly tapers. Due to the isidia, the central areas of older specimens appear dark gray. In contrast to the similar Parmelina pastillifera, when they break off they leave no clear pits on the thallus surface. Apothecia rarely occur.

distribution

Parmelina tiliacea is found on the bark of free-standing deciduous trees, mainly on nutrient-rich bark , for example on maple , ash or linden . It also grows more rarely on silicate rock. It is poorly developed or absent in areas with more air pollution.
