Parmelina pastillifera (Syn .: Parmelia pastillifera (Harm.) R. Schub. & Klem.) Is a species of leaf lichen from the Parmeliaceae family that israrer in Central Europeand mainly grows on tree bark. The epithet “pastillifera” indicates the button-like isidia of the lichen.

description

Parmelina pastillifera is a large-lobed, blue-gray leaf lichen with a bearing diameter of up to 15 cm. The rounded lobes are 3 to 10 mm wide, are usually close together and often have a slight sheen. It is black on the underside and brownish in color towards the edges. On the edge it has (simple) rhizines . The species is very similar to the more common, isidia-bearing Parmelina tiliacea , but its isidia are black, spherical to button-like, often flat on top, widened or dented. After breaking off, they usually leave whitish pits on the surface of the thallus . Sorals are absent, apothecia are very rare.

distribution

Parmelina pastillifera prefers higher areas with higher rainfall. It grows on the bark of predominantly single deciduous trees (especially beech, oak, ash), rarely on silicate rock.
