Fábio Luiz de Jesus Magalhães (born March 13, 1979 in Marataízes , Espírito Santo ) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player , world champion and silver medalist at the Olympic Games.

Career

Magalhães first played indoor volleyball with Barao Ceval from 1999 to 2000 and with Alvares Cabral in 2001 before turning to the game in the sand. Fábio Luiz competed with the beach volleyball world champion in 1999 , José Loiola , on the FIVB Tour 2003 and achieved ninth place as the best result. The next year there was a bronze medal at the tournament on Mallorca with the new partner Paulo Emilio .

With Márcio Araújo the most successful time of his beach career to date began for Fábio Luiz Magalhães. In 2005 he was voted the best blocker and the most improved player in the FIVB beach series. In the same year and the following year, Fábio Luiz and Araújo were on the top podium at seven events, the two Brazilians reached the semi-finals nineteen times in 28 events, with seventeen medals. The highlight was winning the world championship title in 2005 in Berlin . There the two South Americans won nine games in a row after losing in their opening game.

They could not quite repeat this success at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , after beating their compatriots Ricardo Santos / Emanuel Rego in the semifinals , Magalhães / Araújo lost the final against the Americans Rogers / Dalhausser and took silver. The following year was not so successful for the two Brazilians. They had won three more FIVB tournaments in 2007 and at least one FIVB tournament in 2008, but in 2009 the best result was a third place in Brasília .

Fábio Luiz was far from a medal in previous tournaments in 2010. With Harley Marques Silva he finished seventeenth in the capital of his home country Brasília , with Bruno de Paula in Moscow it was only 25th place.

Private

Fábio Luiz Magalhães has had a son with his wife Barbara since the beginning of June 2009.
