Márcio Henrique Barroso Araújo (born October 12, 1973 in Fortaleza , Brazil ) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player , world champion and silver medalist at the Olympic Games.

Career

In 1996, Márcio Araújo started his beach volleyball career . Until 1998 he formed a team with Reis Castro, the two achieved 17th place as the best placement. Things went better from 1999 with their new partner Benjamin , who both won their first FIVB C&S tournament in Cagliari . This title was followed by seven successes in World Tour tournaments and winning the bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships in her home country in Rio de Janeiro .

Araújo began an even more successful collaboration with Fábio Luiz Magalhães . In 2005 he was voted the best defender and in the following three years the best setter of the FIVB Beach series. In 2005 and 2006, Araújo and Fábio Luiz were on the top podium at seven events, the two Brazilians reached the semi-finals nineteen times in 28 events, with seventeen medals. The highlight was winning the 2005 World Cup in Berlin . There the two South Americans won nine games in a row after losing in their opening game.

They could not quite repeat this success at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , after beating their compatriots Ricardo Santos / Emanuel Rego in the semifinals , Araújo / Magalhães lost the final against the Americans Rogers / Dalhausser and took silver. The following year was not so successful for the two Brazilians. They had won three more FIVB tournaments in 2007 and at least one FIVB tournament in 2008, but in 2009 the best result was a third place in Brasília .

2010

In 2010 Márcio Araújo started with Ricardo Santos . After a successful start with a fifth place, it was not until the tournament in Switzerland before Araújo and Santos were able to win a medal together for the first time. After a three-set defeat against the Germans Koreng / Klemperer, the two Brazilians won the game for third place with a clear 2-0. After not starting in Marseille, the two South Americans reached the semifinals of the following four events. While they lost the last two games in Austria and Norway and finished fourth, they won the game for third place against Klemperer and Koreng in the Mazuri Grand Slam after the defeat in the semi-finals. 2011

In the capital of their home country , Márcio Araújo and Ricardo took fourth place, in Prague they came fifth, while they failed in the Grand Slam in Beijing to the reigning world champions Brink and Reckermann in the round of 16. This season, Márcio Araújo and Pedro formed a beach duo. At the opening tournament in their home country, the two Brazilians finished ninth. Things went better in Myslowice when they reached the end of the game and in Shanghai , where the South Americans won bronze. After a ninth place in Beijing, participation in the semi-finals in Prague and two further ninth places in Moscow and Rome, Márcio Araújo and Pedro failed in the country quota in the country quota of Pedro's last year's partner Ferramenta and Thiago .
