José Geraldo Loiola (born March 28, 1970 in Vitória , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian beach volleyball player , world champion and vice world champion.

Career

In 1993 José Loiola started his beach volleyball career as Rookie of the Year in the American AVP series with his compatriot Eduardo Bacil . In February 1995, in Washington, DC , the two became the first foreigner ever to win an AVP tournament.
In the same year the two separated, Loiola's new partner was Adam Johnson . After several successes with Johnson, the Brazilian Loiola took the chance in 1996 to play with the American Kent Steffes , who had just separated from Karch Kiraly . In 1997, the two achieved 12 victories at 22 AVP events, Josè Loiola was also voted King of the Beach and MVP of the year in Nevada , making it the first to do so after being voted Rookie of the Year. Between 1995 and 1998, the Brazilian was also voted AVP's Best Offensive Player.
In 1998 a new chapter was opened in the success story of José Loiola. With Emanuel Rego he won his first FIVB tournament, which was followed by three more victories. The Brazilians became FIVB Champions of the Year in 1999 with seven successes. They also won the Beach Volleyball World Championship in Marseille . Four more FIVB victories followed in 2000. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney they were eliminated in the round of 16.
In 2001 Loiola and his new partner Ricardo Santos became vice world champion in Klagenfurt and won the Goodwill Games in Brisbane , which were held for the last time this year. After two more FIVB successes in 2002, the two won their last joint tournament in Klagenfurt.
After separating from Ricardo, Loiola achieved two podium places on the AVP Tour in 2003 (2nd) and 2008 (3rd).
