Thorsten Schoen

Thorsten "Torte" Schoen (born June 25, 1972 in Nordhorn ), 1.98 meters tall, is a former German beach volleyball player from FC Schüttorf 09 .

Schoen started with Günter Nibbrig as a partner from 1991 to 1996. From 1996 to 2003 he played in a duo with Jan-Erik Gatzke, in 2004 he played partly with Gatzke, partly with Marvin Polte . From 2005 he played almost exclusively with Polte.

Known locally as a very good block player for a long time, he became known with his partner Marvin Polte at the Beach Volleyball World Cup in Berlin in 2005. They reached the semi-finals as the third successor and only placed in 43rd position. They were subject to the later world champions Fábio Luiz Magalhães / Márcio Araújo . In the bronze medal match, Polte / Schoen lost to Julius Brink and Kjell Schneider and took 4th place. Thorsten Schoen was awarded the title of MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the world championship.

Schoen achieved his highest place in the world rankings with 13th place after the 2005 World Cup.
