Stein Metzger (born November 17, 1972 in Honolulu ) is a retired American beach volleyball player .

Life

Steinmetzger grew up Hawaii with surfing and beach volleyball at the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu. During his high school years he played on the Punahou High School team. Stein was a three-time US champion during his time at the University of California (UCLA) and got the All-American here for three consecutive title wins. In addition, he was elected NCAA MVP (Most Value Player) in 1996 and received the William G. Morgan Award for most honored player. Stein finished his studies with a diploma in ecology.

In 2001, Stein won his first tournaments in the AVP (Santa Barbara and Manhattan Beach) on two consecutive weekends with his then partner Kevin Wong . The year 2001 was more preparation for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, where he and Kevin Wong wanted to collect important points on the FIVB World Tour . Stein and Kevin won the FIVB event in Gstaad ( Switzerland ) and the Goodwill Games in Australia . In 2002 there was only one victory (in Espinho - Portugal ). The 2003 World Championships (in Rio de Janeiro) played Stein with Dax Holdren and won the silver medal here. He also played with him at the Olympic Games in Athens a year later and reached fifth place.

2005 was the most successful year for Stein. With his new partner Jacob Gibb he won the first two tournaments in the AVP (Fort Lauderdale and Tempe). Overall, the two won four tournaments and became the most successful AVP team in 2005. Stein and Jake also played an important role internationally. In a total of seven FIVB tournaments they were able to earn over $ 95,000.

From 2006 to 2007 Stein Metzger played with Mike Lambert . Metzger / Lambert were 2006 AVP Team of the Year and reached 2,007 at the World Championships in Gstaad 17th place in 2008 played stone with Mark Williams , with whom he on his last FIVB tournament in the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt the Russians in the final Barsuk / Kolodionski subject . In 2009 Stein stopped performing internationally and ended his career with various partners on the AVP tour.

Stein lives in Manhattan Beach, California and got married in January 2006.
