Mark Williams (born January 27, 1979 in Sydney ) is a former Australian and American volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Born in Australia, Williams immigrated to the United States with his parents when he was nine. From 1998 to 2000 he played in Los Angeles as an outside assailant on the UCLA Bruins high school team . In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games in his native Sydney as a Libero for the Australian national team and finished eighth. Since 2001 Williams has been playing beach volleyball on the American AVP tour. He often changed his partners and played a. a. with Sean Rosenthal , Nick Lucena , Casey Jennings and Stein Metzger . On the FIVB World Tour , Williams started with Julien Prosser for Australia from 2003 to 2004 . In 2003 Prosser / Williams finished ninth at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . In 2004 they took part in the Olympic Games in Athens , where they lost in the match for bronze with 13:15 in the tiebreak against the Swiss Heuscher / Kobel and narrowly missed a medal. Another highlight of his career was second place at the side of Stein Metzger at the FIVB Grand Slam in Klagenfurt in 2008 .
