Nicholas "Nick" Lucena (born January 29, 1979 in Ft. Lauderdale ( Florida ), USA ) is an American beach volleyball player .

Athletic career

Nicholas Lucena has played on the US AVP Tour since 2001 , where he won two tournaments, and internationally since 2005 on the FIVB World Tour .

His first partner here was Phil Dalhausser in 2005 . In 2009 he played with Bradley Keenan at the World Championships in Stavanger 2009 and finished in 17th place.

Nicholas Lucena has played with Matthew Fuerbringer since 2010 , with whom he reached the final in Klagenfurt in 2010 and in Québec in 2011 , but lost to the top US duo Dalhausser / Rogers .

At the World Cup in Rome 2011 , Fuerbringer / Lucena finished ninth. In 2013, Lucena initially competed with John Hyden . The duo completed their first joint Grand Slams in The Hague and Rome .

At the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki, Hyden / Lucena were eliminated after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Canadians Saxton / Schalk . Then played two years alternately with Theodore Brunner and Ryan Doherty .

Phil Dalhausser has been his partner again since August 2015. Lucena / Dalhausser took second place at the Grand Slam in Long Beach , won the Xiamen Open and finished second at the World Tour Final in Fort Lauderdale.

In the 2015/16 season there were almost without exception top ten placements for the Americans with several tournament victories, including a. at the major in Hamburg.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 they were eliminated in the quarterfinals against the later gold medalists Alison / Bruno and finished fifth.

At the Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2019 he played with Phil Dalhausser and was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the German team Julius Thole / Clemens Wickler 2-0.

Private

Lucena has had a son with beach volleyball player Brooke Niles since April 2013.
