Clemens Wickler (born April 28, 1995 in Starnberg ) is a German volleyball and beach volleyball player . He was German beach volleyball player of the year in 2018 and 2019 .

Sporting successes in Halle

In his youth, Wickler played volleyball in his home country at TuS Fürstenfeldbruck and TV Bad Tölz . In 2010 he moved to the junior team of VCO Kempfenhausen and in 2013 to VC Olympia Berlin , with whom he played in the second division in 2013/14 .

Sporting successes Beach

Wickler started playing beach volleyball in 2009. With Felix Kroha he became German U17 champion in Bostalsee in 2011 .

At the side of Niklas Rudolf from Leipzig , he won the bronze medal at the U18 European Championship in Brno in 2012 .

With Moritz Reichert from Saarland , Wickler was U19 world champion in Porto as well as German U20 champion in Marl and German U19 champion in Kiel .

Since 2014, Wickler has played alongside Armin Dollinger and finished fourth in the German championship in Timmendorf . Together with Niklas Rudolf, Wickler became U20 European Champion in Cesenatico in 2014 .

At the German championship 2015 in Timmendorf , Clemens Wickler and Armin Dollinger became German champions. Due to a knee injury, Wickler could rarely play in 2016 and also missed the German championship.

In 2017 he played alongside Tim Holler and became German champion with him .

Wickler has been playing with Julius Thole since 2018 . Thole / Wickler received the status of "German national team" from the DVV and won the CEV satellite tournament in Gothenburg . On the FIVB World Tour , a fifth place in Ostrava and a third place in Espinho were their best results. Thole / Wickler took part in the World Tour season finale in Hamburg with a wildcard and achieved fourth place. Subsequently, Clemens Wickler was voted German beach volleyball player of the year 2018 . At the German championship in 2018 at Timmendorfer Strand he defended his title with Julius Thole. Wickler thus won his third German championship title with the third different partner.

In 2019 Thole / Wickler started with second place at the 4-star tournament in The Hague . At the 4-star tournaments in Doha and Xiamen , they came in ninth in March / April. As in the previous year, they finished fifth in Ostrava in June. At the 2019 World Cup in Hamburg they reached the final, in which they were defeated by the Russians Stojanowski / Krassilnikow . In these championships, Wickler was also awarded as an MVP. While they lost to the eventual winners Mol / Sørum at the EM 2019 in Moscow , they made it back onto the podium in the subsequent 4-star tournament in the subsequent 4-star tournament with third place. In August, Clemens Wickler was again Germany's beach volleyball player of the year. At the end of the season there was a fifth place for Thole / Wickler in the German championship and a second place in the World Tour final in Rome .
