Anders Berntsen Mol (born July 2, 1997 in Fusa ) is a Norwegian volleyball and beach volleyball player . With his partner Christian Sørum , he became European champion four times in a row and Olympic champion in 2021.
Career Beach
Mol got into beach volleyball in his youth through his parents. He started with Martin Olimstad at the U18 European Championship in Maladsetschna in 2013 . With his cousin Mathias Berntsen , Mol was active at various national and international tournaments from 2014 to 2017. Berntsen / Mol were U20 European champions in Larnaka in 2015 and U22 vice European champions in Baden in 2017 . Further highlights of the cousins were ninth place in the 2017 world series at the 5-star tournament in Poreč and third place at the 2-star tournament in Espinho . In 2016, Mol was again U20 European champion with Aleksander Sørum in Antalya . Since the end of July 2016, Mol has been playing with his brother Christian Sørum , with whom he finished fifth at the FIVB Major in Klagenfurt and won the U22 European Championship in Thessaloniki . In 2017 Mol / Sørum finished ninth at the FIVB 5-star tournament in Gstaad , won the CEV Masters in Ljubljana and finished fifth at the European Championships in Jūrmala . In addition, Mol was named “Best Newcomer” on the 2017 World Tour . In 2018 , Mol / Sørum started the 4-star tournament in The Hague with a fifth place. Many other top ten placements followed, including fifth place in Xiamen , second place in Itapema , fifth place in Espinho and victory in Gstaad. In July Mol / Sørum became European champions in the Netherlands. Then they also won the 5-star tournament in Vienna and climbed to number one in the world rankings after 19 victories in a row. Mol / Sørum also emerged victorious at the World Tour Final in Hamburg .
The 2018/19 World Tour season was dominated by Mol / Sørum. They won the 4-star tournaments in Las Vegas, Itapema, Jinjiang, Ostrava and came second in Warsaw. At the world championship in Hamburg they were eliminated in the semifinals against the German team Thole / Wickler and finished in third place. The following tournaments in Gstaad, Tokyo and Vienna could be won again. Mol / Sørum defended their title at the European Championships in Moscow .
In 2020, Mol / Sørum in Jūrmala became European champions for the third time in a row . On the World Tour 2021 they won the two consecutive tournaments in Cancun in April . At the Olympic beach volleyball tournament in Tokyo they won the gold medal with a final victory over the Russian world champions Vyacheslav Krassilnikow and Oleg Stojanowski . At the European Championships in Vienna , Mol / Sørum defended their title again.
Career hall
Mol also played indoor volleyball for the Norwegian U20 national team in 2016. In the 2016/17 season, the outside attacker became Belgian runner-up with Noliko Maaseik and also played in the Champions League .
Private
Mol's parents Merita Berntsen and Kåre Mol are former volleyball / beach volleyball players and today's coaches. His four siblings are also active in volleyball and beach volleyball.
