Third place went to the Norwegians Anders Mol and Christian Sørum . In the women's category, Canadians Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes won the final against Alexandra Klineman and April Ross from the United States. The bronze medal went to the Australians Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar . The defending champions Evandro Gonçalves Oliveira Júnior and André Loyola Stein as well as Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst were no longer running together. Germany provided a total of ten teams at this tournament. Switzerland was represented by three and Austria by three duos.
The Canadians Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes win the Women's World Cup.
The Russians Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Viacheslav Krasilnikov win the men's world title.
mode
48 teams each competed for women and men. Each continent was represented by at least one team.
In twelve preliminary round groups, four teams played each against each for a place in the main round. There were two points for a win and one point for a loss. The two best teams from each group and the four best thirds in the group reached the next round directly. The eight remaining thirds in the group determined the “lucky losers” for the next round in four qualifying games. From there on, the simple knockout system continued until the final.
The 96 teams played for a total of one million euros in prize money. The new world champions also received a permanent starting place for their country at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo .
game schedule
The draw for the preliminary groups took place on June 4, 2019 in Hamburg's City Hall. The top twelve teams for women and men were set as group heads. The schedule with the individual pairings was published on June 12, 2019.

media
There were extensive broadcasts of the World Cup on German television. The public broadcasters Das Erste and ZDF reported live on free TV and in summaries of some games . They showed other games in live streams on their online platforms. Also Sport1 broadcasting rights acquired and also offered live broadcasts and highlights. ZDF broadcast the women's final live as part of a lengthy sports report on Saturday afternoon. The men's final was shown on the first on the following day. At the same time, the broadcaster DAZN broadcast all games from the Arena am Rothenbaum. There was also another live stream with all the games on the Internet.
qualification
The qualifications were identical for women and men. As hosts, Germany received two guaranteed starting places. The 23 best teams in the world rankings reached the world championship directly. Another 20 teams were each added via a continental qualification, with each continental association being able to provide up to four duos in this way. Three starting places were awarded as wild cards . The German Volleyball Association received four of these wild cards.
venue
For the second time after Berlin 2005 a beach volleyball world championship took place in Germany. The Rothenbaum stadium is best known for the Hamburg ATP tennis tournament . However, it has also served as the venue for the FIVB World Tour three times ; In 2016 there was a tournament of the beach volleyball world series for the first time and in 2017 and 2018 the final of the World Tour took place in this stadium. There were 13,200 seats for the World Cup. This makes the Rothenbaum stadium the largest venue in World Cup history. Entry was basically free. Spectators who bought a ticket had their seat safe.
organization
On January 24, 2018, FIVB President Ary Graça Filho announced that Hamburg will host the 2019 World Cup. The Hanseatic city prevailed against the Californian cities of Los Angeles and San Diego . The FIVB World Tour manager, Hannes Jagerhofer, will be responsible for the organization . Frank Mackerodt and Frank Ehrich's Comtent agency are also responsible for organizing the location . The costs for the tournament were estimated at around eight million euros when they were awarded. The main sponsors are Bank Comdirect , which is also active in the Techniker Beach Tour, and the discounter Aldi Nord.
