Career

As an indoor volleyball player, Gerson was six times Swiss junior champion. The following year the two young Swiss finished ninth at the U20 European Championships in Tel Aviv . They finished the Junior World Championships 2011 in Halifax in fifth place. They also won the national junior championship. In 2012 the experienced Swiss beach volleyball players Philip Gabathuler and Jan Schnider decided to compete with young partners. Both duos are trained by Gerson's father Marc . Mirco Gerson has played with Gabathuler ever since. At the European Championships in Scheveningen , Gabathuler / Gerson reached the first main round as second in the group, which they also survived victoriously before they were defeated by the later third-placed Skarlund / Spinnangr from Norway. In the same year Gerson won the silver medal together with Gabriel Kissling at the Junior World Championships in Halifax . At the Swiss Championships 2012, Gerson / Gabathuler surprisingly reached the final, where they lost to Heyer / Chevallier . Mirco Gerson was also named Swiss Youngster of the Year 2012 . In 2013 Gerson played with Alexei Prawdzic . At the European Championships in Klagenfurt , Gerson / Prawdzic came into the next round as second in the group after two wins in the preliminary round. They survived the first knockout round without a fight before they were eliminated in the round of 16 against the later bronze medal winners Fijałek / Prudel . After winning the Swiss championship , Gerson parted ways with Prawdzic and from 2014 played again with Philip Gabathuler, with whom he was able to successfully defend the Swiss championship . In 2015 Gabathuler / Gerson finished ninth at the World Championships in the Netherlands . After winning the Swiss championship again in 2016, the two separated. In 2017 Gerson played alongside Michiel Zandbergen .

Adrian Heidrich has been his partner since 2018 . At the domestic FIVB 5-star tournament in Gstaad and at the European Championship in the Netherlands , Gerson / Heidrich finished ninth.
